The distillation column is a special apparatus, where a division of substances in liquid state with different boiling point takes place. Heat and mass transfer is the principle of the distillation column operation, which causes separate condensation of vapor components. The process itself takes place inside the column which consists of: reflux exchanger, refrigerator condenser, initial liquid heater, distillate plates, and distillation residue.
The initial mixture is heated, vapors rise up, where they are cooled and get into a distillate plate. At some point “flooding” of a distillation column may occur, when reflux that is moving down cannot overcome the resistance caused by the rising up vapors. As a result, it accumulates in the rectification part, and may even accidentally discharge through the nozzle of the reflux exchanger. A number of distillate plates in the distillation column specifies how many fractions of end product needed. As practice shows, it is nearly impossible to achieve 100% pure fuel, as it always contains traces of water. Classic dishes have an efficiency level of 50-60%, vortex dishes are close to 100%, but still an absolute lack of moisture in the fuel has not been achieved so far.
